How Spinal Stenosis Affects Your Nervous System
Are you concerned your backpain is spinal stenosis? It’s a serious condition, that if left untreated, can lead to permanent nerve damage, paralysis, and death.
Spinal stenosis is diagnosed when there is a decrease in the normal size of your spinal canal. This change forces additional pressure on your nerves, making it difficult for them to communicate with the rest of your body.
Generally, the condition will affect one or both of your two spinal canals. One runs vertical with the spinal cord, and the other runs horizontal with your spinal foramen. Some patients may ignore early signs of spinal stenosis, which can cause further inflammation in your spine.
That inflammation will add even more pressure to your nerves, worsening your nervous system’s ability to communicate with the rest of your body. If ignored, your vertebrae can shift out of position, causing even more complications with spinal stenosis.
Early causes signs of spinal stenosis may chronic backpain due to poor posture, numbness, or weakness in your body. Over time, spinal stenosis will cause your body to produce calcium and mineral salts that will further reduce the size of your canals.
